Definition & Chemical Basis
PA12 (Polyamide 12 or Nylon 12) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic belonging to the nylon family, synthesized from laurolactam monomers. It exhibits a lower density (1.01–1.02 g/cm³) compared to other polyamides like PA6 or PA66.

- Absorption rate of ~0.25% (vs. 1.5–3.0% for PA6/PA66), ensuring dimensional stability in humid environments.
- Flexibility & Toughness
- High impact resistance and elongation at break, retaining ductility at temperatures as low as −40°C.
- Chemical Resistance
- Resistant to oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, and alkalis; suitable for automotive and industrial fluids contact.
- Processing Fluidity
- Low melt viscosity enables easy injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.
- Thermal Performance
- Melting point: 178°C; continuous service temperature: 80–90°C.
